2016 School Cross Country Competition

Today, we had our annual Cross Country Competition.

it was a perfect day and everyone did their best.

We took time to have a bit of a rest before Mrs. Hutchins came over to take us to the start line.

And the winners were!!!

Tac's Hockey

Today the year 7&8 students entered 6 teams in to the Tac's Hockey tournament. Hockey is not St Marys strongest sport but we did well. Thank you to all the parents and teacher aids who came and supported our students at Percival road.

Des Hunt's visit

Yesterday, we were lucky to at last meet the author whose books we have been enjoying over the past six weeks. He used his background as a Science teacher to model how he goes about planning and writing his books.  

He kept everyone captivated throughout the workshop and hopefully has inspired some to use some of his tips when planning to share an idea with an audience.
We learnt that it was his frustration at seeing so few New Zealand based books available that prompted him to write stories set in places that are familiar to us all.

In both of these photos, he is using magnets to demonstrate how a reader is drawn in first by an effective hook -in, then again towards carefully constructed conflicts that keep the reader engaged in the text.

T.A.C' s Soccer

On Tuesday the 2nd of August the Intermediate Students travelled to Woodford House to play soccer as part of the T.A.C's series. There were 6 different teams competing in different categories. Overall we had no winners in the grades but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.  Below are some photos of our students playing their games.

Neila's last day.

It was Neila's last day today and the class celebrated by sharing out a cake.

We will miss her next term and wish her the best for her time at her new school.

Matariki Inquiry

We have been working on an inquiry into Matariki.

Art Exhibition

Today, the school's Visual Arts Exhibition opens. Our art works are on display in the foyer of the old junior block.

They look amazing and we hope lots of our family and whanau will come in and view.
